Book Review: All Roads Lead to Ganga

“Although at Badrinath I missed the sound of birds and the presence of trees, there were other compensations. It was good to be part of the happy throng at its colorful little temple and to see the sacred river close to its source. And early next morning I was rewarded with the loveliest experience of all.

Opening the window of my room and glancing out, I saw the rising sun touch the snow-clad summit of Nilkantha. At first, the snow was pink; then they turned to orange and gold. All sleep vanished as I gazed up in wonder at the magnificent pinnacle in the sky.”

A treat to nature lovers! ‘All roads lead to Ganga’ is another gem from the collection of Ruskin Bond. If you love reading travelogues this one is definitely for you. As always, once you start reading, you get lost in the author’s magical words, which beautifully describe the breath-taking beauty of various places that leads to the sacred river Ganga.

The book lays out a magnificent evocative description of the snow-capped mountains, thinly populated villages, their activities, and lifestyle, away from the hustle-bustle of the chaotic city life, the great trees of Garhwal, the animals, the birds, along with the different places of worship. This narration takes you to a mesmerizing journey that will be there to stay.

It is from Ruskin Bond. I don’t think I have to say more. If you are aware of his writings or have read his works earlier, then you know very well how this book would be. His subtle and lucid style makes this one a delightful read.
